The Marina Project was introduced to design a structure supporting a multi-use access platform(s) for a water quality sampling point for the purpose of monitoring the levels of bacterial and chemical contamination of Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey, California. Your design proposal will seek to foster dynamic relationship between Land and Water, as well as the Urban and the Natural.

The need to access both water and street makes this a very delicate project; it needs to mediate between the urban and natural environment with practically no buildable terrain beneath it. While there is no enclosed/indoor program, the project does suggest the creation of a sense of protection from the elements while still being open and allowing unimpeded movement both to the viewing platform(s) as in and around the boat launch area below.

*Building must only have three point of contact to the site. Must not sit on the site, for it cannot block the path for bikers or walking.
